This comprehensive and complete biography and bibliography is finally available for Tasha Tudor collectors to use and treasure. It includes works not only by the ever popular Tasha, but those by her husband, Thomas McCready, and their daughters, Bethany and Efner. A 50 page bibliography of periodical articles about Tasha Tudor is also a part of this important contribution to children's literature bibliography which explores the differences between reprints of Tasha's work and leads the reader to an appreciation of her talent and versatility.
The author's state: "We mean to describe every printing, binding and state of each Tudor book. You will not find a more complete collection than is described here. Most bibliographies concentrate on the first appearances of books, and especially so when a popular book is reprinted over a number of years. But, we have not found the children's book market to be so discriminating that people concentrate exclusively on the first editions." And so this bibliography will allow those of us who purchase a copy "for personal enjoyment" to find "Our" own copy of whatever title we look up. And we'll be looking things up in this "opus" for years to come. It is a most complete collection and listing of one author's work and a model for bibliographers of other authors/illustrators we all treasure. The listings include the following information: title, publisher, where published, copyright if known, pagination, cover description, Dust Jacket description, contents, illustrations, Other (in this case A Partial List on 69 pieces of artwork). Copyright registration, Copyright Renewal Registration. This is followed by similar information on the other printings of this title. As you can see, this is a lot of information for readers to absorb in one sitting. But the joy and the dedication the Hares have given to this work are evident in every page. Bethany Tudor's illustrations throughout and contributions by the two Tudor daughters and two editors give added value to fans and collectors of this especially welcome addition to children's literature scholarship and to collectors and dealers worldwide.
