WEDDING PAINTING TO EMILY AND STEWART, 1977

The image is of a just married couple in Regency costume walking to the left. The gentleman wears buff full-length britches, a white shirt with a wide white ascot and a blue jacket with black velvet collar over a cream vest. The blushing bride sans jewelry wears a straight white dress with empire waistline. Her waist-length veil falls from a golden crown. The presentation resurrects the Tudor imagery of Jackanapes (1948) in its period costume and the wreath of two laurel fronds that enclose the central image. A small glowing box sits at the base. It may contain the groom's gift to his bride.
Tudor signed the art in pencil at the lower right: T. Tudor. A further inked inscription in small script subtends the laurel wreath: Happy thoughts for Emily and Stewart, 1977. A second T. Tudor signature in the same faded ink is beneath this phrase.
The art forms a circle approximately 3 ½" in diameter. It is mounted beneath a moss-green mat with a 4 ¼" circular cut-out. All in a wood frame with light gilding measuring 11" x 10 ½". The frame is backed in fraft paper with evidence that a framer's label has fallen off after the glue dried.
This piece originated with the Olson family of Bellefonte, Pa., who purchased Tudor art from Ned Hills' Dutch Inn shop, Mill Hall, Pa. in the mid-20th century. This piece was most likely a special wedding gift.
