Tudor, Tasha. Marlboro, VT: 1994/95. Unique handmade doll. 18" high with carved wooden head, hands and feet.
Effie Fenno is one of about a dozen dolls created by Tasha Tudor during her lifetime, and probably the last. She was made to be auctioned at a Tasha Tudor event in Colonial Williamsburg, Va. in 1995. Tudor modeled and named the doll for her own great-grandmother, making this a very personal item. She is jointed like a marionette. Effie has a limited wardrobe, but comes with a substantial collection of household objects. These are a library, a wingback chair made and signed by Marjorie and Seth Tudor, a Seth Tudor corner cupboard and rocking chair, other tables, chairs and miscellaneous objects. We count about 115 pieces in all, including a four-poster bed with canopy. Tudor wrote a two line authenication on the back of the carved wooden shoulders: "Effie Fenno, my great grand mother". And at the top back of the suede body: "Made by Tasha Tudor 1994/95." Effie was purchased at the 1995 auction, sold to a doll dealer/museum in 2003, and to a descendant of Effie Tudor in 2012.VG / NA. Item #28701
