GIRL IN ROCKING CHAIR HOLDING THE CANARY from THISTLY B, page [11]; Original art from Thistly B

Tasha Tudor. Webster, NH: 1948. 41/4" x 3 1/4" The frame measures 8" x 71/8"

Original watercolor for Thistly B. This lovely image shows a little girl "Efner" helping her canary Thistly B at his bath. "Every day he had a bath in a saucer while Efner held it. Afterwards he had a piece of apple or lettuce for a treat." The art has been cut from a larger piece of paper, probably at Oxford University Press in the printing process. It carries a diminutive T.Tudor, penciled in the lower right corner. The piece measures 4 1/4" x 3 1/4" and shows discoloration from having once been in an acidic mat. This piece was shown at the Shelburne (VT) museum in a 2006 retrospective of Tudor art. It was remounted by the museum at that time in acid free matting in a black metal Nielsen frame.
