The NORTH WIND for the story "Shingebiss" from Tasha Tudor's Bedtime Book (Platt & Munk, 1977)

Tasha Tudor. ca. 1976. 4 3/8" x 9 3/8"

The art is reproduced on page [15] of the book. This is an unusual image for Tudor reminiscent of the blue snow scenes of Fairy Tales of Hans Christian Andersen (1945). Shingebiss's cabin appears in gray at the lower right. The main image is of the icy skeletal North Wind racing away from the cabin to the left. Trees, mountains and the northern lights form the background. Signed in pencil at the extreme lower right: T. Tudor.

The art paper is 4 1/8" high and 9 ¼" wide. Tudor affixed the art to a larger piece of paper which has not been examined out of the frame. Then she painted a darker blue color to this background sheet. She used the same technique to mount the street scene from Christmas Village (Cellar Door Books, item 23767).

The art is double-matted. An opening 4 3/8/" x 9 3/8" in a gray mat reveals the art and a sliver of the blue background. A light blue mat with a second 5 ½" x 10 ½" opening forms the top layer of this matting. In a wood gold-toned frame with a federal blue hi-light. The piece carries the shop label on the back of Von Gunden Frame & Gallery, Bellefonte, PA.
