SILVER TEA BALL IN THE FORM OF A SILVER SPOON

5 3/4" long.

An unusual and true Victorian TEA spoon, which doubles as a tea ball. This would be stirred directly into a cup without requirig a pot - one cup for a solitary sole. The body is conventional with scroll work and a generaous spoon in the form of a shell. The spoon portion is punched with a series of tiny holes along the ribs. A mirror image of the "spoon" is hinged to the "spoon" and folds ove it to form a space to accept tea leaves. This piece contines 3/4" of an inch up the spoon handle, folding directly over the handle. A small ring slides down ove the two nested pieces to hold the tea ball shut. The handle is stamped with what ppears to be a knot encumpassing a W, STERLING. Further up the handle: STERLING PAT. JUNE 9, '91. The handle portion of the applied cover is stamped 20. The front of the handle is completed with an engraved H at the top, and beneath it Nov -19- 1893.
